WELCOME TO THE LOUNGE
LOCATION
Placed in a small expansion plot near the entrance of Universal CityWalk Osaka, the Paper Lounge will have its own portal entrance near the Hard Rock Cafe. Because CityWalk is on the second level, the portal will double as a bridge across the street to the restaurant and lounge.
There are two entrances to the Paper Lounge. The portal entrance takes you to the 2nd floor lounge and rooftop area, and the first floor entrance, which you can access from CityWalk and the parking lot by traveling down to ground level and walking across the street, will be the family dining area. The image below shows the dimensions of the lounge and portal entrance in relation to the surrounding area. |
LOUNGE BACKSTORY
Centuries ago, a great battle occurred between four heroes and the legendary beast, the Shadow Queen. The four heroes were able to seal the Queen, but in the process, an ancient city and civilization was destroyed. Years later, the city was built over by a group of Toads, Goombas, Koopas, and Piantas. This new city came to be known as Rogueport. Now, travellers from all over the Paper world come to stop in at Rogueport during their epic adventures! The denizens of Rogueport invite you to stop in and enter their Paper world.
PODLEY'S PLACE
PODLEY'S PLACE
Beanish entrepreneur Podley took the opportunity to open this saloon style restaurant when the new city was being built. He hired the best chef in Toad Town, Zess T., and the best chef from Flipside, Saffron, to prepare the food. All the way from his homeland, the BeanBean Kingdom, Podley brought the secret recipe for Chuckola Cola. Said to be made from the laughing fruits in the Chuckola Woods, this soda gives you as much enjoyment as the fruits that it is made of! Try your luck at the grand Labo piano. The pianist O’Chunks is an unlikely one. Formerly a villain that faces off against Mario, O’Chunks has since reformed and taken up the hobby of playing the piano! He doesn’t like to share, but sometimes, he may give you a brief opportunity to play it yourself.
INTERIOR LAYOUT
Much like how Springfield is designed at Universal parks, the Paper Lounge will essentially take the form of multiple exterior shells that combine together to form one floorplan. In this case, a small bookstore selling park exclusive children's book retellings of various Nintendo games which feature intricately detailed pop up artwork which make the books a hot ticket souvenir item for collectors looking for something a bit more classy and artistically focused. The book store will be on the right hand side of the main building, while a small video game store sits on the opposite end of the main floorplan.
All of the characters with outlines are “paper”. They are moving cutouts, and the characters are created through screens on these cutouts. The humans are made simple just to illustrate the difference between what was Paper and what wasn’t.
The large center of the Paper Lounge will consist of a family themed table service restaurant in the form of Podley's Place, named for the owner of the lounge who's likeness can be found roaming the 1st story floor space in the form of a walk-around character. The family friendly dining will be separated from the upstairs lounge, but both areas of the building will be thematically linked to each other. The 1st story is the main restaurant run by Podley, while the second floor lounge acts as an extension to the same restaurant thematically and is run by everyone's favorite game show host Chuck Quizmo, who has taken up a deal with Podley to drum up publicity by turning the once-abandoned upstairs bar into a lively, permanent bar trivia night experience as Chuck and Podley rake in the earnings together.

In addition, the world will be created with the help of a a handful of "windows" around the room to the outside Paper Mario world.

Behind the window there will be various set "paper" pieces and projections matching the art style of the game and lounge. A transparent screen in front of the sets will be have light projected on it to make it more unclear to the eye whether it is 2D or 3D, creating an interesting visual effect. In addition, the sets will have similar abilities to the 2.5D of Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, with the animation coming to life before your eyes with different transformations available depending on the stories.
LABO PIPE ORGAN
Adding a bit of corporate synergy to the Paper Lounge as well as just general visual novelty will be the Labo Pipe Organ. This will be one of the largest cardboard creations ever made and will stretch two stories tall. Constructed from the exact same material that the new Nintendo Labo creations are made from and fashioned in the Paper Mario style, this free to play pipe organ will serve as one of the biggest kinetic stand-outs and is sure to be a fan favorite for many who visit the Paper Lounge.
